Harradines' FAQs

Q. How do you calculate the removal fee and what is included in the quotation?
A. At Harradines, every quotation is tailored to the individual requirements of the client. The fee is based on the quantity of belongings that need to be moved, the size and type of vehicles, where you are moving to, and any special requirements such as packing services or storage. Everything is included in the quotation, there are no hidden extras. Because we do a full survey of your requirements, the figures we give you are accurate quotations, not estimates.

Q. When do I need to pay?
A. A 50% deposit is payable once the quotation has been accepted, and the balance should be paid in full seven days before the move. Payment options available are debit or credit card or BACS transfer.

Q. How much notice do I need to give?
A.
To make sure of your booking, it's always best to sign the acceptance form and send it back to us as soon as possible even if you don't have a firm date for moving. We generally plan moves 2-3 weeks ahead but try to be as flexible as possible to accommodate our clients. Just remember to keep us in the loop! Once you notify us that we are your preferred mover, we can work around our workbook with our corporate contracts to hold your provisional date as long as possible.

Q. Do I have to pay if I cancel or postpone the move?
A.
It depends on how much notice you give us. If you cancel the booking between 4-7 days before your move date, 50% of the total removal charges would be due. If you postpone the date of your move, we will try to get other bookings for your slot and reschedule your move date to suit you. To minimise the risk we recommend that you don't make a firm booking until exchange has taken place.

Q. What if my completion date changes?
A.
We understand that this happens from time to time. See above for arrangements for rescheduling a move.

Q. What does your insurance cover?
A.
Harradines insures every move for £50,000. This amount can, and regularly is, increased, for a small charge. It covers any loss or negligence on our part. We have an excellent claims history and, should any problem arise, we aim to deal with it as quickly, efficiently and fairly as possible.

Q.Boxes and packing materials - what's included?
A.
At Harradines we offer full, part packing and client pack services. During your survey we find out exactly what packing materials your move requires and include them in the price we quote you. We use only high quality packing materials suitable for each item and all items are covered by our extensive insurance policy. We collect the empty boxes after the move (whenever you're ready) and recycle them responsibly. No deposits are held for materials.

Q. Do Harradines staff smoke during my move?
A.
We have a strict no smoking rule while at a client's premises/house or when loading belongings into the vans. Non smoking crews are available upon request.

Q. Can you move my piano or other special items?
A.
We've been moving people for 40 years and have probably encountered every possible type of special item, many of them extremely valuable, from grand pianos to 40' Christmas trees. Our staff are highly trained and experienced and we use specialist packing materials where needed.

Q. Do you do surveys in the evenings/at weekends?
A.
We will book a survey at any time to suit you. We regularly see clients in the evenings, before they go to work or on Saturdays.

Q. What does it mean to be a member of the Guild of Removers and Storers?
A.
The Guild exists to protect consumers and to constantly monitor its members. It has a rigorous code of practice by which members must abide, and it regularly carries out checks on members to ensure that they are adhering to the highest standards. Since joining, Harradines has consistently been an ‘Excellence Awarded Member'.

Q. What is Harradines' environmental policy?
A.
At Harradines we're committed to running our business in an environmentally responsible way. We make every effort to reduce our carbon footprint and manage our resources efficiently. We comply with all the relevant waste legislation, and carry out annual energy, waste and water audits to increase efficiency and identify cost savings. See Green policy for more details.
